Tentacles of Desire. Joshua Hadley traveled across Japan in the 19th century, documenting a world rarely seen by outsiders. One of his most bizarre discoveries was the Kinoe no Komatsu. It included several woodblock prints of octopi and female pearl divers in intimate situations. The woodblocks ranged from the odd to the downright frightening. [NSFW] more inside

Be an anti-consumism rebel, just like everyone else: an interesting take on the culture of anti-consumerism. The author states that anti-consumerism is not a critique of consumerism, but rather a critique of mass society-- a critique which has in fact "been one of the most powerful forces driving consumerism for more than 40 years." Koala Sabotage In the Big List of Two Words You Wouldn't Normally Expect to Find Next to Each Other, "Koala Sabotage" ranks in the top ten, just below "Lemur Assassin." Nonetheless, it's a good name for this game, wherein your team of fuzzy, cuddly koalas derail trains and steal supplies in order to build cheap, shoddy houses. Not the sort of behavior you generally expect from marsupials. [Flash]

Something Fishy. Consider the case of the Tangerine Rodeo Fish, a creature that has evolved the ability to encircle other fish in gaseous byproducts of its internal systems -- bubbles -- thereby making the other fish disappear and scoring the points it needs to survive. By capturing more fish of the same type in the bubbles, it scores exponentially more points, allowing it to survive longer. This is just one of the species you'll learn about in the new IMAX production, Oh No, More Damn Fish.
